Cotton Fabric Price in the United States (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average cotton fabric import price amounted to $1.4 per square meter, growing by 2.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 10%. The import price peaked at $1.5 per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($6.8 per square meter), while the price for China ($0.7 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cotton Fabric Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
The average cotton fabric export price stood at $4.4 per square meter in August 2023, jumping by 17% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The export price peaked at $4.6 per square meter in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Canada ($6.8 per square meter), while the average price for exports to El Salvador ($1.8 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Dominican Republic (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cotton Fabric Imports in the United States
In 2022, supplies from abroad of woven fabrics of cotton decreased by -0.2% to 536M square meters, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 13%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 589M square meters. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cotton fabric imports expanded modestly to $725M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, exports of woven fabrics of cotton from the United States shrank to 88M square meters, with a decrease of -7.4% against 2021. Overall, exports showed a precipitous slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 13%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 214M square meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cotton fabric exports reached $337M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports faced a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $472M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
