Cotton Fabric Price in the Dominican Republic (FOB) - 2022
The average cotton fabric export price stood at $1.8 per square meter in 2022, picking up by 5.3% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +9.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cotton fabric export price increased by +43.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 124%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2.3 per square meter in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Haiti.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Haiti amounted to +9.1% per year.
Cotton Fabric Price in the Dominican Republic (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average cotton fabric import price amounted to $2.1 per square meter, dropping by -3.6% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 30% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $2.6 per square meter in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($3.1 per square meter), while the price for Nicaragua ($0.9 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Cotton Fabric Exports in the Dominican Republic
In 2022, approx. 102M square meters of woven fabrics of cotton were exported from the Dominican Republic; which is down by -7.1% on 2021 figures. Overall, exports saw a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 15%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at 111M square meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cotton fabric exports fell to $179M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a modest expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 57%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $183M, and then dropped slightly in the following year.
