Cotton Fabric Price in Nigeria (CIF) - 2022
The average cotton fabric import price stood at $0.1 per square meter in 2022, waning by -91.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 120%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2.1 per square meter in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($0.2 per square meter), while the price for Japan (less than $0.1 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (-2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Cotton Fabric Price in Nigeria (FOB) - 2022
The average cotton fabric export price stood at $0.2 per square meter in 2022, with an increase of 23% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, faced a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 109% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $3.4 per square meter. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Congo ($3.2 per square meter), while the average price for exports to Spain ($0.1 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Niger (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cotton Fabric Imports in Nigeria
In 2022, overseas purchases of woven fabrics of cotton decreased by -18.3% to 97M square meters, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 147M square meters. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cotton fabric imports dropped dramatically to $9.8M in 2022. In general, imports faced a dramatic setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 15%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $137M, and then fell rapidly in the following year.

Cotton Fabric Exports in Nigeria
In 2022, shipments abroad of woven fabrics of cotton decreased by -59.3% to 23K square meters for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports recorded a dramatic contraction. The exports peaked at 182K square meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cotton fabric exports fell markedly to $5.2K in 2022. Overall, exports saw a sharp decline. The exports peaked at $113K in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
