Cosmetics Price in New Zealand (CIF) - 2022

The average cosmetics import price stood at $31,003 per ton in 2022, growing by 6.7% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 8.5% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Italy ($39,402 per ton) and China ($34,566 per ton), while the price for Switzerland ($28,785 per ton) and Australia ($29,141 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+10.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cosmetics Price in New Zealand (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average cosmetics export price amounted to $28,299 per ton, picking up by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cosmetics export price increased by +33.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to the United States ($29,228 per ton) and Japan ($28,158 per ton), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($27,579 per ton) and China ($27,620 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+8.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cosmetics Imports in New Zealand

In 2022, imports of cosmetics into New Zealand fell slightly to 7.9K tons, approximately mirroring the previous year. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 9.8% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 8K tons, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, cosmetics imports rose remarkably to $243M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 19%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
