Corrugated Paper Box Price in Germany (FOB) - 2023

In June 2023, the average corrugated paper box export price amounted to $1,765 per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 4.6% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,857 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($2,126 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($1,248 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average corrugated paper box import price amounted to $1,714 per ton, growing by 5.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 an increase of 7.6% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,839 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Hungary ($2,887 per ton), while the price for Austria ($1,289 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, shipments abroad of cartons, boxes and cases of corrugated paper or paperboard decreased by -8.7% to 830K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 909K tons, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, corrugated paper box exports totaled $1.4B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 24%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
