Commercial Printing Price in Hungary (FOB) - 2023

The average commercial printing export price stood at $5,643 per ton in June 2023, increasing by 13% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 when the average export price increased by 27% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in June 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Poland ($8,325 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($1,471 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average commercial printing import price stood at $6,619 per ton in June 2023, reducing by -13.5% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a slight increase from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, commercial printing import price decreased by -13.8% against April 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 65% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $7,677 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($19,042 per ton), while the price for Poland ($2,638 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Commercial Printing Exports in Hungary

Commercial printing exports from Hungary shrank to 65K tons in 2022, with a decrease of -12.4% on 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 23%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 74K tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, commercial printing exports dropped to $260M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 32% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $270M, and then fell in the following year.

Commercial Printing Imports in Hungary

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in overseas purchases of commercial printing (except screen and books), when their volume decreased by -4.4% to 44K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 6.6% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 46K tons, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

In value terms, commercial printing imports fell to $213M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 13%.
