Commercial Printing Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021

The average commercial printing export price stood at $5,839 per ton in December 2021, picking up by 44% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a pronounced increase from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.8% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, commercial printing export price increased by +72.9% against September 2021 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Malawi ($49,893 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($1,658 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+21.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average commercial printing import price stood at $6,486 per ton in December 2021, reducing by -3.2% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2020 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2021 when the average import price increased by 26% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $6,702 per ton in November 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($13,940 per ton), while the price for Japan ($1,985 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Commercial Printing Exports in Malaysia

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of commercial printing (except screen and books), when their volume increased by 11% to 60K tons. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt descent.

In value terms, commercial printing exports expanded rapidly to $295M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a deep reduction.
