Cocoa Bean Price in Lithuania (CIF) - 2023

The average cocoa bean import price stood at $1,036 per ton in September 2023, dropping by -8.6% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated tangible growth from September 2022 to September 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.9% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2023 figures, cocoa bean import price decreased by -31.9% against May 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 56% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,522 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was North Macedonia ($2,061 per ton), while the price for Austria ($825 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cocoa Bean Price in Lithuania (FOB) - 2022

The average cocoa bean export price stood at $5,552 per ton in 2022, declining by -48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 18%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $16,129 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($7,673 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($2,496 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uzbekistan (-3.4%).

Cocoa Bean Imports in Lithuania

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of cocoa beans, when their volume decreased by -17.1% to 2K tons. In general, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 1,213%.

In value terms, cocoa bean imports reduced remarkably to $1.6M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 895% against the previous year.
