Cocoa Bean Price in Ecuador (FOB) - 2022
In January 2022, the average cocoa bean export price amounted to $2,420 per ton, declining by -3.5% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2021 when the average export price increased by 4.5% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $2,551 per ton in January 2021; however, from February 2021 to January 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In January 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($2,640 per ton) and the Netherlands ($2,497 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($2,302 per ton) and Italy ($2,315 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Cocoa Bean Price in Ecuador (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average cocoa bean import price amounted to $3,111 per ton, reducing by -10.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 52%. The import price peaked at $3,979 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($3,457 per ton), while the price for the United States totaled $3,016 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Dominican Republic (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Cocoa Bean Exports in Ecuador
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of cocoa beans decreased by -1% to 327K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 19% against the previous year.
In value terms, cocoa bean exports fell modestly to $818M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 24%.
