Cocoa Bean Price in Cameroon (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average cocoa bean export price amounted to $2,039 per ton, falling by -10.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 24% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $3,232 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Singapore ($2,508 per ton) and France ($2,483 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($1,899 per ton) and Malaysia ($2,188 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cocoa Bean Price in Cameroon (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average cocoa bean import price amounted to $823 per ton, with a decrease of -6.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 1.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $3,485 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Congo ($817 per ton), while the price for Central African Republic totaled $793 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Congo (-13.1%).

Cocoa Bean Exports in Cameroon

Cocoa bean exports from Cameroon totaled 236K tons in 2022, increasing by 11% compared with 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, cocoa bean exports dropped slightly to $481M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 12% against the previous year.

Cocoa Bean Imports in Cameroon

For the third consecutive year, Cameroon recorded decline in supplies from abroad of cocoa beans, which decreased by -25.6% to 1.1 tons in 2022. Overall, imports faced a abrupt curtailment. The smallest decline of -5.4% was in 2021.

In value terms, cocoa bean imports declined markedly to $946 in 2022. In general, imports saw a sharp setback. The smallest decline of -16.8% was in 2021.
