In July 2023, the average chocolate and confectionery import price amounted to $3,940 per ton, shrinking by -10% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 an increase of 16% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $4,378 per ton in June 2023, and then declined in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($6,397 per ton), while the price for Germany ($2,860 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average chocolate and confectionery export price stood at $5,083 per ton in July 2023, rising by 7.6% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 11% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in July 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($6,656 per ton), while the average price for exports to Morocco ($3,459 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Chocolate and Confectionery Imports in Spain

Chocolate and confectionery imports into Spain dropped slightly to 275K tons in 2022, declining by -2.8% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 283K tons, and then fell slightly in the following year.

In value terms, chocolate and confectionery imports dropped to $1B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $1B, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
