In 2022, the average chipped non-coniferous wood import price amounted to $898 per cubic meter, increasing by 8.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 77% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($929 per cubic meter), while the price for the United States ($877 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+50.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Chipped Non-Coniferous Wood Imports in Costa Rica
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of non-coniferous wood in chips or particles decreased by -20% to 4 cubic meters in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +33.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 33%. Imports peaked at 5 cubic meters in 2021, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, chipped non-coniferous wood imports fell to $3.6K in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 135% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $4.1K in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
