Chestnut Price in Australia (CIF) - 2022

The average chestnut import price stood at $83,500 per ton in 2022, picking up by 573% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a significant increase. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for France.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for France amounted to +254.4% per year.

Chestnut Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022

The average chestnut export price stood at $4,500 per ton in 2022, dropping by -34.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 297%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $6,863 per ton, and then declined notably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($13,200 per ton), while the average price for exports to Qatar ($3,776 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lebanon (+8.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Chestnut Imports in Australia

In 2022, overseas purchases of chestnuts decreased by -98.4% to 38 kg, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a dramatic decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 33%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 7.2 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chestnut imports reduced notably to $3.2K in 2022. Overall, imports saw a sharp shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 178%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $48K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
