Cherry Price in New Zealand (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average cherry export price amounted to $15,089 per ton, shrinking by -6.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.4%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average export price increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $16,111 per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($17,043 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($10,228 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average cherry import price stood at $10,587 per ton in July 2023, reducing by -12.1% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a noticeable descent. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $16,511 per ton. From August 2022 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for the United States.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the United States amounted to -3.6% per month.

Cherry Exports in New Zealand

In 2022, overseas shipments of cherries were finally on the rise to reach 3.3K tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cherry exports surged to $50M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
