Cheese Price in Brazil (CIF) - 2023
The average cheese import price stood at $5,491 per ton in July 2023, approximately mirroring the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 3.2% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in July 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($10,672 per ton), while the price for Argentina ($5,128 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cheese Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average cheese export price amounted to $6,207 per ton, dropping by -3% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 an increase of 26% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $7,296 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($7,652 per ton), while the average price for exports to Uruguay ($4,637 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Cheese Imports in Brazil
For the fourth consecutive year, Brazil recorded growth in overseas purchases of cheese, which increased by 3.9% to 33K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 10%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, cheese imports soared to $166M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +11.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Cheese Exports in Brazil
In 2022, overseas shipments of cheese decreased by -5.9% to 4.3K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 21%.
In value terms, cheese exports rose sharply to $25M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +48.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
