Cheese and Curd Price in China (CIF) - 2023

The average cheese and curd import price stood at $5,358 per ton in September 2023, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 3.6% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $5,704 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($7,468 per ton), while the price for Australia ($4,709 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Cheese and Curd Price in China (FOB) - 2023

The average cheese and curd export price stood at $6,633 per ton in August 2023, which is down by -2.8% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 52% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $15,069 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($12,450 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada stood at $11,693 per ton.

From September 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cheese and Curd Imports in China

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of cheese and curd decreased by -17.4% to 145K tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +26.7% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 176K tons, and then fell sharply in the following year.

In value terms, cheese and curd imports dropped to $769M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +47.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $813M, and then contracted in the following year.

Cheese and Curd Exports in China

In 2022, exports of cheese and curd from China surged to 347 tons, with an increase of 16% against 2021 figures. Overall, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -24.3% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 68%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 458 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cheese and curd exports rose slightly to $2.2M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -12.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 62%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $2.5M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
