Chalk Price in Poland (CIF) - 2023

The average chalk import price stood at $74.7 per ton in July 2023, dropping by -46.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, enjoyed a moderate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2022 when the average import price increased by 96% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $224 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($347 per ton), while the price for Denmark ($20.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Chalk Price in Poland (FOB) - 2022

The average chalk export price stood at $117 per ton in 2022, increasing by 39% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a slight setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 321% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $141 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($605 per ton), while the average price for exports to Latvia ($54 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belarus (+13.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Chalk Imports in Poland

Chalk imports into Poland shrank markedly to 84K tons in 2022, which is down by -26.9% compared with the year before. In general, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 120%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 114K tons, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, chalk imports shrank sharply to $8.3M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +27.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 45%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $9.8M, and then fell sharply in the following year.

Chalk Exports in Poland

In 2022, shipments abroad of chalks decreased by -35.9% to 31K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports recorded a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 649%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 258K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chalk exports contracted to $3.7M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $5.1M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
