Cement Price in Hungary (CIF) - 2023

In August 2023, the average cement import price amounted to $111 per ton, remaining stable against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a moderate increase from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.8% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, cement import price decreased by -5.5% against April 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 31% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $118 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($139 per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($80.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cement Price in Hungary (FOB) - 2023

In July 2023, the average cement export price amounted to $91.4 per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated noticeable growth from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.8% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, cement export price decreased by -1.9% against May 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 23% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $93.3 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($120 per ton), while the average price for exports to Croatia ($89.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cement Imports in Hungary

Cement imports into Hungary expanded significantly to 1.8M tons in 2022, increasing by 12% against the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cement imports skyrocketed to $137M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +13.0% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Cement Exports in Hungary

For the third year in a row, Hungary recorded decline in overseas shipments of cement, which decreased by -29.7% to 233K tons in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt setback. The smallest decline of -7.5% was in 2021.

In value terms, cement exports fell markedly to $16M in 2022. In general, exports saw a abrupt setback. The smallest decline of -2.8% was in 2020.
