Carob Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average carob import price amounted to $411 per ton, falling by -21.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $615 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($1,301 per ton), while the price for Spain ($341 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Carob Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023

The average carob export price stood at $2,938 per ton in October 2023, growing by 424% against the previous month. In general, the export price enjoyed a prominent increase. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Norway ($4,540 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan amounted to $2,906 per ton.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+34.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Carob Imports in the Netherlands

Carob imports into the Netherlands skyrocketed to 2.9K tons in 2022, growing by 56% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, carob imports soared to $1.2M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
