Canned Vegetable Price in Germany (CIF) - 2023

In August 2023, the average canned vegetable import price amounted to $1,958 per ton, with an increase of 1.6% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.8%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 an increase of 6.8% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in August 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Poland ($3,493 per ton), while the price for China ($1,342 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Canned Vegetable Price in Germany (FOB) - 2023

In August 2023, the average canned vegetable export price amounted to $2,678 per ton, with a decrease of -6.6% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 17% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $3,255 per ton. From July 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($5,723 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($1,432 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Canned Vegetable Imports in Germany

Canned vegetable imports into Germany rose to 917K tons in 2022, increasing by 4.4% against 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, canned vegetable imports expanded slightly to $1.3B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 8.9%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Canned Vegetable Exports in Germany

In 2022, overseas shipments of canned vegetables increased by 1.6% to 143K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, showed a noticeable setback.

In value terms, canned vegetable exports fell to $333M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 3.2%.
