Bus Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023
The average bus import price stood at $78,606 per unit in August 2023, with a decrease of -13.9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 39% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $113K per unit in January 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to August 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Japan ($90,298 per unit) and Malaysia ($89,266 per unit), while the price for China ($89,266 per unit) and Brazil ($89,266 per unit) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Bus Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average bus export price amounted to $62,815 per unit, increasing by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, bus export price decreased by -39.1% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 112% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $103,212 per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nauru ($107,915 per unit), while the average price for exports to Norfolk Island ($3,107 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kenya (+25.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Bus Imports in Australia
In 2022, the amount of public-transport type passenger motor vehicles imported into Australia expanded modestly to 1.8K units, with an increase of 4.6% against the previous year. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 2K units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, bus imports soared to $152M in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a noticeable shrinkage. Imports peaked at $162M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of public-transport type passenger motor vehicles, when their volume increased by 169% to 35 units. In general, exports, however, faced a sharp setback. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at 93 units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, bus exports skyrocketed to $2.2M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a precipitous shrinkage. The exports peaked at $7M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
