Bovine Animals; Live Price in Spain (FOB) - 2023

In August 2023, the average bovine animals; live export price amounted to $1,270 per unit, waning by -1.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 16% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,296 per unit in April 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to August 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($1,874 per unit), while the average price for exports to Libya ($1,077 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In August 2023, the average bovine animals; live import price amounted to $1,255 per unit, falling by -2.1% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 7.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $1,355 per unit in June 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to August 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Poland ($1,658 per unit), while the price for Portugal ($911 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In value terms, bovine animals; live exports plummeted to $250M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 6.9%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $347M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
