Biodiesel Price in the Czech Republic (CIF) - 2023

The average biodiesel import price stood at $1,373 per ton in July 2023, picking up by 5.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a pronounced shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 5.6% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,404 per ton. From September 2022 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,932 per ton), while the price for Italy ($1,297 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Biodiesel Price in the Czech Republic (FOB) - 2023

The average biodiesel export price stood at $1,242 per ton in July 2023, picking up by 3.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a pronounced slump. The export price peaked at $2,042 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,282 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($1,221 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Biodiesel Imports in the Czech Republic

In 2022, overseas purchases of biodiesel decreased by -9.2% to 164K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 15% against the previous year.

In value terms, biodiesel imports skyrocketed to $380M in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Biodiesel Exports in the Czech Republic

In 2022, shipments abroad of biodiesel decreased by -10.8% to 130K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 48% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 162K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, biodiesel exports soared to $257M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 55%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
