Biodiesel Price in Greece (CIF) - 2022

The average biodiesel import price stood at $1,838 per ton in 2022, picking up by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed mild growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 67% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,883 per ton), while the price for Romania ($296 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Biodiesel Price in Greece (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average biodiesel export price amounted to $2,237 per ton, picking up by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, biodiesel export price increased by +121.3% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 58% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($3,241 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cyprus ($1,254 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+41.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Biodiesel Imports in Greece

In 2022, approx. 100K tons of biodiesel were imported into Greece; picking up by 256% compared with the year before. Overall, imports showed significant growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, biodiesel imports skyrocketed to $184M in 2022. In general, imports enjoyed significant growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, overseas shipments of biodiesel decreased by -26.3% to 17K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, total exports indicated noticeable growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -27.2% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 50%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 23K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, biodiesel exports expanded notably to $37M in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 45% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
