Beer Price in Sri Lanka (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average beer export price amounted to $0.8 per litre, growing by 3.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 5.6%. The export price peaked at $1.3 per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($1 per litre), while the average price for exports to Qatar ($0.6 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uganda (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beer Price in Sri Lanka (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average beer import price amounted to $1.5 per litre, increasing by 19% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, beer import price increased by +35.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by 25% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($2.3 per litre), while the price for India ($1 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Beer Exports in Sri Lanka
For the fourth consecutive year, Sri Lanka recorded growth in overseas shipments of beer, which increased by 0.5% to 15M litres in 2022. In general, exports showed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, beer exports amounted to $12M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 59%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Beer Imports in Sri Lanka
In 2022, supplies from abroad of beer decreased by -67.7% to 251K litres, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports showed a significant decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 817K litres. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, beer imports fell remarkably to $384K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a sharp contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 15%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $996K in 2021, and then fell significantly in the following year.
