Beer Price in Spain (CIF) - 2023

The average beer import price stood at $890 per thousand litres in July 2023, dropping by -4.9% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 11% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $936 per thousand litres in June 2023, and then fell in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Mexico ($1.5 per litre), while the price for Belgium ($772 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Beer Price in Spain (FOB) - 2023

The average beer export price stood at $988 per thousand litres in July 2023, declining by -3.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 6.8% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $1.0 per litre in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Andorra ($2.7 per litre), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($677 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+3.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Beer Imports in Spain

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of beer decreased by -0.6% to 528M litres in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 4.7%. Imports peaked at 532M litres in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

In value terms, beer imports fell to $379M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $382M, leveling off in the following year.

Beer Exports in Spain

For the fourth year in a row, Spain recorded growth in overseas shipments of beer, which increased by 11% to 358M litres in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, beer exports shrank slightly to $325M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +10.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 16%. The exports peaked at $329M in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
