In 2022, the average asbestos import price amounted to $481 per ton, remaining stable against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 20%. The import price peaked at $624 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($527 per ton), while the price for China ($274 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (-0.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average asbestos export price stood at $370 per ton in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 33%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,003 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for India.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for India amounted to -6.9% per year.

Asbestos Imports in Vietnam

In 2022, overseas purchases of asbestoses increased by 0.8% to 29K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern.

In value terms, asbestos imports amounted to $14M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $14M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, shipments abroad of asbestoses was finally on the rise to reach 3.4 tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decrease.

In value terms, asbestos exports soared to $1.3K in 2022. In general, exports, however, faced a drastic downturn.
