Apple Price in Spain (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average apple import price amounted to $1,145 per ton, picking up by 10% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated perceptible growth from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, apple import price increased by +34.0% against March 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 36% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in June 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Chile ($1,635 per ton), while the price for Poland ($701 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Apple Price in Spain (FOB) - 2023
The average apple export price stood at $1,056 per ton in June 2023, picking up by 9.8% against the previous month. Over the period from June 2022 to June 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 17% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $1,090 per ton in December 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to June 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($1,653 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($719 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Apple Imports in Spain
In 2022, the amount of apples imported into Spain expanded significantly to 223K tons, increasing by 8.8% compared with the year before. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, apple imports reduced rapidly to $168M in 2022. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 12% against the previous year.

In 2022, shipments abroad of apples decreased by -6.7% to 110K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a perceptible slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 14%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 145K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, apple exports reduced to $98M in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a slight curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 15%.
