Antibiotic Price in Saudi Arabia (CIF) - 2022

In 2021, the average antibiotic import price amounted to $87,976 per ton, rising by 28% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, antibiotic import price increased by +44.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 36% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($735,773 per ton), while the price for the United States ($16,375 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+24.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Antibiotic Price in Saudi Arabia (FOB) - 2022

The average antibiotic export price stood at $32,656 per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $90,648 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($50,345 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) amounted to $23,000 per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Yemen (+210.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Antibiotic Imports in Saudi Arabia

Antibiotic imports into Saudi Arabia surged to 728 tons in 2022, increasing by 55% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decrease.

In value terms, antibiotic imports soared to $54M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -19.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 39%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $68M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
