U.S. Anise, Badian, Fennel And Coriander Import Price per Ton in March 2022

In March 2022, the anise, badian, fennel and coriander price per ton stood at $2.8K (CIF, US), dropping by -4% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to March 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 an increase of 9.4% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3.0K per ton, and then reduced slightly in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2022, the country with the highest price was China ($7.4K per ton), while the price for Canada ($1.9K per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+26.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In March 2022, approximately 2.7K tons of anise, badian, fennel and coriander were imported into the United States; growing by 37% against February 2022 figures. Overall, imports, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage.

In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports surged to $7.8M (IndexBox estimates) in March 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage.

Cumin seeds, neither crushed nor ground (877 tons), seeds of anise, badian, caraway or fennel; juniper berries, neither crushed nor ground (620 tons) and cumin seeds, crushed or ground (571 tons) were the main products of anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports to the United States, together accounting for 75% of total imports. These products were followed by coriander seeds, neither crushed nor ground, coriander seeds, crushed or ground and seeds of anise, badian, caraway or fennel; juniper berries, crushed or ground, which together accounted for a further 25%.

From January 2022 to March 2022, the biggest increases were in coriander seeds, crushed or ground (with a CAGR of +5.4%), while purchases for the other products experienced a decline.

In value terms, cumin seeds, neither crushed nor ground ($2.5M), seeds of anise, badian, caraway or fennel; juniper berries, neither crushed nor ground ($2.2M) and cumin seeds, crushed or ground ($1.6M) constituted the most imported types of anise, badian, fennel and coriander in the United States, together comprising 81% of total imports. These products were followed by coriander seeds, neither crushed nor ground, coriander seeds, crushed or ground and seeds of anise, badian, caraway or fennel; juniper berries, crushed or ground, which together accounted for a further 19%.

In March 2022, India (1.6K tons) constituted the largest supplier of anise, badian, fennel and coriander to the United States, with a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (309 tons), fivefold. Canada (269 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9.8% share.

From January 2022 to March 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from India was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Turkey (-36.3% per month) and Canada (-17.4% per month).

In value terms, India ($4.3M) constituted the largest supplier of anise, badian, fennel and coriander to the United States, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($937K), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Canada, with a 6.4% share.

From January 2022 to March 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from India stood at +5.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Turkey (-33.7% per month) and Canada (-20.9% per month).
