Aluminium Wire Price in South Korea (CIF) - 2022

In December 2022, the average aluminium wire import price amounted to $4,754 per ton, rising by 3% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 an increase of 16% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $4,959 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to December 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($10,442 per ton), while the price for Russia ($2,692 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+8.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In December 2022, the average aluminium wire export price amounted to $3,740 per ton, waning by -8.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 9.8% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $4,735 per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to December 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($4,976 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Philippines ($2,775 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Aluminium Wire Imports in South Korea

In 2022, supplies from abroad of aluminium wires decreased by -19.8% to 16K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 66%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 20K tons, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium wire imports dropped significantly to $47M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +39.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 59%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $57M, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

Aluminium wire exports from South Korea shrank to 6.2K tons in 2022, waning by -8.7% on the year before. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 21%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 6.8K tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, aluminium wire exports reduced sharply to $22M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 47%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $26M, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
