Aluminium Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2023
The average aluminium import price stood at $2,319 per ton in July 2023, dropping by -2.1% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 2.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $2,806 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were India ($2,600 per ton) and Azerbaijan ($2,476 per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($2,225 per ton) and Tajikistan ($2,233 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Aluminium Price in Turkey (FOB) - 2022
The average aluminium export price stood at $2,767 per ton in 2022, picking up by 14% against the previous year. Over the last five years, it increased at an average annual rate of +5.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 34%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Brazil ($3,355 per ton) and Romania ($3,140 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($2,354 per ton) and Italy ($2,654 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Greece (+14.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Aluminium Imports in Turkey
In 2022, approx. 1.2M tons of aluminum (unwrought, not alloyed) were imported into Turkey; with a decrease of -9.3% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +54.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 71% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 1.4M tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, aluminium imports reached $3.5B in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 151% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
