Abrasives Price in China (FOB) - 2022

The average abrasives export price stood at $374 per ton in 2022, picking up by 16% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, abrasives export price increased by +108.4% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 36% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($571 per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($239 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+16.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Abrasives Price in China (CIF) - 2023

The average abrasives import price stood at $131 per ton in June 2023, growing by 16% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 41% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $179 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($191 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($86.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (-1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Abrasives Exports in China

For the third year in a row, China recorded decline in overseas shipments of abrasives (natural), which decreased by -4.1% to 189K tons in 2022. Overall, exports showed a drastic downturn. The smallest decline of -0.2% was in 2021.

In value terms, abrasives exports expanded notably to $71M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Abrasives Imports in China

Abrasives imports into China dropped dramatically to 151K tons in 2022, falling by -17.1% against the year before. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 7.8%.

In value terms, abrasives imports shrank to $23M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 31%.
