Global dry peas imports amounted to 5,122 thousand tonnes in 2015, coming up by +6.4% against the previous year level. Overall, the global dry peas imports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009, when the output figure increased by +36% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global dry peas imports reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, global dry peas imports amounted to $2,208 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global dry peas imports increased robustly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +8.7%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Dry Peas Imports By Country

The country with the largest volume of the dry peas imports in absolute volumes was India (2,144 thousand tonnes), accounting for 42% of global imports. It was followed by China (903 thousand tonnes), with a share of 18% of global imports. Moreover, dry peas imports in India exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, China (903 thousand tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Pakistan with a share of 9%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of dry peas imports in India stood at +3.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: China (+16.7% per year) and Pakistan (+33.8% per year).

In value terms, the country with the largest volume of imports of dry peas in absolute volumes was India (816 million USD), making up 37% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by China (339 million USD), with a share of 15% of global imports. Moreover, dry peas imports in India exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, China (339 million USD), twofold. It was followed by Pakistan with a share of 11%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of dry peas imports in India was at +8.1%. The remaining importing countries experienced the following average annual growth rates: China (+22.3% per year) and Pakistan (+42.8% per year).
