Which Country Exports the Most Rubber, Plastic Or Leather Footwear in the World?

Global rubber, plastic or leather Footwear exports amounted to 1.5M tonnes in 2016, coming down by -4.8% against the previous year level. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2009, when export increased by 24% y-o-y. Over the period under review, global rubber, plastic or leather Footwear exports attained its maximum volume of 1.8M tonnes in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, rubber, plastic or leather Footwear exports totaled $49B in 2016. Overall, rubber, plastic or leather Footwear exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, global rubber, plastic or leather Footwear exports attained its maximum level of $58B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Rubber, Plastic Or Leather Footwear Exports By Country

China (512K tonnes) represented the key exporting country with an export of around 512K tonnes, which reached 34% of total exports. Indonesia (118K tonnes) ranks second globally in rubber, plastic or leather Footwear exports with a 8% share, following Italy (7%), and Viet Nam (6%). The following exporters - Germany (56K tonnes), Portugal (52K tonnes), Cambodia (48K tonnes), China, Hong Kong SAR (46K tonnes), the Netherlands (35K tonnes), Belgium (35K tonnes), Spain (34K tonnes), and the UK (34K tonnes) together made up 22% of total exports.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% from 2007 to 2016. At the same time, Cambodia (+15.3%), the UK (+9.4%), Indonesia (+4.9%), Viet Nam (+4.4%), Spain (+4.2%), Germany (+2.9%), and Portugal (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest growing importer/exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +15.3% from 2007-2016. By contrast, the Netherlands (-1.1%), Italy (-2.4%), Belgium (-5.3%), and China, Hong Kong SAR (-9.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2007 to 2016, the share of China, Hong Kong SAR, and Italy increased by 5%, and 2% percentage points, while Viet Nam (-2.0%), Cambodia (-2.3%), Indonesia (-2.7%), and China (-13.2%) saw their share reduced. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest rubber, plastic or leather Footwear markets worldwide were China ($9B), Italy ($7.6B) and Viet Nam ($4.3B), together comprising 43% of global exports.Germany, Indonesia, Portugal, China, Hong Kong SAR, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, the UK and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

Cambodia (+24.4% per year) had the highest growth rate of rubber, plastic or leather Footwear exports, among the main exporting countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2016, the average export price for rubber, plastic or leather Footwear amounted to $32 per kg, waning by -2.2% against the previous year. Overall, rubber, plastic or leather Footwear export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008, when export increased by 18% from the previous year level. In that year, average rubber, plastic or leather Footwear export price reached its maximum level of $40 per kg. From 2009 to 2016, growth of average rubber, plastic or leather Footwear export price failed to regain its strength.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was Italy ($73 per kg), while Cambodia ($11 per kg) was among the lowest.
