Which Country Exports the Most Electric Lamps in the World?

In 2016, approx. 204K tonnes of lamp were exported worldwide; going down by -11.5% against the previous year level. Overall, lamp exports continue to indicate a deep deduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010, when exports increased by 5% against the previous year level. Global lamp export peaked of 409K tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, lamp exports amounted to $12B in 2016. Overall, lamp exports continue to indicate a drastic deduction. Over the period under review, global lamp exports attained its maximum level of $18B in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Lamp Exports By Country

The exports of the four major exporters of lamp, namely Poland, France, Germany, and Hungary, represented more than half of total export. The Netherlands (12K tonnes) occupied a 6% share (based on tonnes) of global lamp exports, which put it in second place, following United Arab Emirates (6%). Russia (7.4K tonnes), Italy (6.8K tonnes), Japan (6.5K tonnes), the UK (4.9K tonnes), South Korea (4.2K tonnes), and Spain (3.7K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of lamp exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Russia (+12.1% per year), while the other global leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In value terms, Germany ($1.6B) remains the largest lamp supplier in the world, making up 14% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Poland ($613M), with the share of 5% of global exports. It was followed by France, with the share of 5%.

From 2007 to 2016, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value of lamp exports in Germany decreased by -5.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates: Poland (-3.3% per year) and France (-6.0% per year).

Lamp Export Prices By Country

In 2016, the average export price for lamp amounted to $57 per kg, flattening at the previous year level. Over the last nine years it increased at an average annual rate of +3.7%.The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008, an increase of 16% against the previous year level. Global lamp export peaked of $61 per kg in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was Japan ($85 per kg), while United Arab Emirates ($3,055 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of lamp export prices was attained by Germany (+9.3% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
