Which Country Consumes the Most Soya Beans in the World?

Global soya bean consumption amounted to 306,067 thousand tonnes in 2015, stabilizing at the previous year level. Overall, the global soya bean consumption indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total consumption volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when the output figure increased by +19% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global soya bean consumption attained its maximum volume of 306,519 thousand tonnes in 2014. From 2015 to 2015, the total soya bean consumption growth failed to regain its strength.

Global Soya Beans Consumption

In 2015, the countries with the highest consumption were the United States (117,773 thousand tonnes), Brazil (99,023 thousand tonnes), Argentina (60,899 thousand tonnes), together making up 82% of total consumption. They were followed by Paraguay with a 4% of global consumption share and China with a 3% share.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of soya bean consumption among the main consuming countries was attained by Brazil (+6.9% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The highest levels of soya bean per capita consumption was registered in Paraguay (2023.16 kg/year), followed by Argentina (1402.66 kg/year), Brazil (476.42 kg/year), the United States (366.01 kg/year) and China (8.18 kg/year), while the average per capita consumption of soya bean was estimated at 61.66 kg/year in 2015.

In Paraguay, per capita soya bean consumption has grown noticably (+9.1% per year) in recent years. In 2015, Paraguay per capita consumption reached 2023.16 kg/year as compared with 1005.67 kg/year in 2007.
