Which Countries Consume the Most Soya Beans?

From 2008 to 2015, the global soya bean market was roller-coast in physical terms, showing an upward trend, overall. The last wave started from a local low point in 2012 at 238 million tonnes. Over the next two years, the market posted solid gains. However, it turned downwards in 2015, dropping to 298 million tonnes.

According to market research conducted by IndexBox, in 2015, the leading consuming markets were China (31%), the U.S. (30%), Argentina (13%), Brazil (11%), and India (3%), together accounting for approximately 78% of global consumption. These countries were also the leading soya bean producers in the world.

From 2008 to 2015, global soya beans consumption increased by healthy +4.1% annually. The highest annual growth rates of soya beans consumption between 2008 and 2015 were registered in China, with +8.5% growth, and the U.S., with +3.7% growth.

With nearly 93 million tonnes of soya beans consumed in 2015, China became the world's leading soya bean consuming country. Per capita soya bean consumption in China was estimated at 65.4 kg/person, 60% higher than the global average (41.1 kg/person).

The highest levels of soya bean consumption were registered in Argentina (896.7 kg/person), the U.S. (188.2 kg/person), and Brazil (161.9 kg/person). India (6.9 kg/person) had the lowest volumes of soya beans consumption among leaders.
