UK Register Book Prices Surge Significantly to $4,923 per Ton
United Kingdom Register Book Import Price in November 2022
In November 2022, the register book price amounted to $4,923 per ton (CIF, United Kingdom), jumping by 17% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a slight expansion from January 2022 to November 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7% over the last ten-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on November 2022 figures, register book import price increased by +17.0% against October 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 when the average import price increased by 85% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $7,625 per ton. From June 2022 to November 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2022, the country with the highest price was Italy ($10,842 per ton), while the price for Poland ($2,658 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to November 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
United Kingdom Register Book Imports
In November 2022, overseas purchases of registers, account books, order books and receipt books decreased by -2.6% to 3.4K tons, falling for the fifth consecutive month after two months of growth. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 with an increase of 71% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of 5.2K tons. From July 2022 to November 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, register book imports expanded markedly to $17M (IndexBox estimates) in November 2022. In general, total imports indicated modest growth from January 2022 to November 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5% over the last ten-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on November 2022 figures, imports decreased by -28.2% against May 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 when imports increased by 88% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $23M. From June 2022 to November 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
United Kingdom Register Book Imports by Country
In November 2022, China (2K tons) constituted the largest register book supplier to the UK, accounting for a 60% share of total imports. Moreover, register book imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (517 tons), fourfold. Germany (133 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.9% share.
From January 2022 to November 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at -1.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: India (+0.8% per month) and Germany (+1.5% per month).
In value terms, China ($10M) constituted the largest supplier of register book to the UK, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($1.7M), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 7% share.
From January 2022 to November 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: India (+3.5% per month) and Italy (+12.9% per month).
