The Price of Turkey's Frozen Fruit Drops to $2,606 per Ton

Turkey Frozen Fruit Export Price in March 2023

In March 2023, the frozen fruit price stood at $2,606 per ton (FOB, Turkey), waning by -4.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 13% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $2,738 per ton in February 2023, and then fell modestly in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Portugal ($4,652 per ton), while the average price for exports to Serbia ($1,812 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+19.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Turkey Frozen Fruit Export Prices by Type

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In March 2023, the product with the highest price was frozen raspberries, blackberries, mulberries, loganberries, black-, white- or red currants and gooseberries ($5,758 per ton), while the average price for exports of frozen strawberries ($2,369 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: frozen fruits and nuts (excluding strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, mulberries, loganberries, black, white or red currants, and gooseberries) (+1.2%), while the prices for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.

Turkey Frozen Fruit Exports

In March 2023, shipments abroad of frozen fruits increased by 9.3% to 3.7K tons, rising for the second consecutive month after two months of decline. In general, exports, however, showed a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 with an increase of 52% against the previous month.

In value terms, frozen fruit exports rose modestly to $9.6M (IndexBox estimates) in March 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 with an increase of 48% against the previous month.

Frozen fruits and nuts (excluding strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, mulberries, loganberries, black, white or red currants, and gooseberries) (1.8K tons), frozen strawberries (1.8K tons) and frozen raspberries, blackberries, mulberries, loganberries, black-, white- or red currants and gooseberries (18 tons) were the main products of frozen fruit exports from Turkey.

From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the major product types, was attained by frozen raspberries, blackberries, mulberries, loganberries, black-, white- or red currants and gooseberries (with a CAGR of +31.4%), while the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, frozen fruits and nuts (excluding strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, mulberries, loganberries, black, white or red currants, and gooseberries) ($5.2M), frozen strawberries ($4.3M) and frozen raspberries, blackberries, mulberries, loganberries, black-, white- or red currants and gooseberries ($106K) appeared to be the most exported types of frozen fruits from Turkey worldwide.

Frozen raspberries, blackberries, mulberries, loganberries, black-, white- or red currants and gooseberries, with a CAGR of +31.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main product categories over the period under review, while shipments for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.

Turkey Frozen Fruit Exports by Country

The United States (558 tons), Germany (547 tons) and Canada (420 tons) were the main destinations of frozen fruit exports from Turkey, together accounting for 41% of total exports. Italy, the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Japan, Taiwan (Chinese), Serbia, Portugal and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 51%.

From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +490.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($1.7M), the UK ($1.5M) and Germany ($1.2M) constituted the largest markets for frozen fruit exported from Turkey worldwide, together comprising 46% of total exports. These countries were followed by Canada, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Japan, Portugal, Taiwan (Chinese), Serbia and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 48%.

Portugal, with a CAGR of +606.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
