Qatar's Import of Plastic Sanitary Ware Drops to $408K in October 2023

Qatar Plastic Sanitary Ware Imports

In October 2023, supplies from abroad of plastic baths, wash-basins, lavatory pans and covers and similar sanitary ware was finally on the rise to reach 46K units after two months of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a slight curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when imports increased by 89% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of 145K units. From January 2023 to October 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic sanitary ware imports shrank rapidly to $408K (IndexBox estimates) in October 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2023 when imports increased by 172% month-to-month. Imports by Country

China (19K units), Turkey (18K units) and Germany (5.3K units) were the main suppliers of plastic sanitary ware imports to Qatar, together comprising 93% of total imports.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +17.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, China ($239K) constituted the largest supplier of plastic sanitary ware to Qatar, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($82K), with a 20% share of total imports.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the average monthly growth rate of value from China amounted to -1.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Turkey (-7.0% per month) and Germany (-7.1% per month).

Imports by Type

In October 2023, plastics bidets, lavatory pans and flushing cisterns (29K units) constituted the largest type of plastic sanitary ware supplied to Qatar, accounting for a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, plastics bidets, lavatory pans and flushing cisterns exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, plastic lavatory seats and covers (14K units), twofold.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of plastics bidets, lavatory pans and flushing cisterns was relatively modest. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: plastic lavatory seats and covers (-1.2% per month) and plastic baths, shower-baths, sinks and wash-basins (-10.6% per month).

In value terms, plastic baths, shower-baths, sinks and wash-basins ($182K), plastics bidets, lavatory pans and flushing cisterns ($160K) and plastic lavatory seats and covers ($67K) constituted the most imported types of plastic baths, wash-basins, lavatory pans and covers and similar sanitary ware in Qatar.

Import Prices by Country

In October 2023, the plastic sanitary ware price stood at $8.9 per unit (CIF, Qatar), reducing by -49.1% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 an increase of 97% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $17.5 per unit in September 2023, and then dropped sharply in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($12.4 per unit), while the price for Turkey ($4.6 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
