Price of Cranks and Crankshafts in Japan Surges 10%, Reaching an Average of $8,713 per Ton
Japan Cranks And Crankshafts Export Price in April 2023
In April 2023, the cranks and crankshafts price amounted to $8,713 per ton (FOB, Japan), rising by 9.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 when the average export price increased by 12% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $9,895 per ton. From June 2022 to April 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was India ($10,977 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($4,188 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Japan Cranks And Crankshafts Exports
In April 2023, after two months of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of cranks and crankshafts, when their volume decreased by -12.3% to 8.2K tons. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 with an increase of 40% against the previous month.
In value terms, cranks and crankshafts exports fell slightly to $71M (IndexBox estimates) in April 2023. Overall, exports recorded a slight reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 when exports increased by 26% m-o-m.
Japan Cranks And Crankshafts Exports by Country
The United States (2.5K tons) was the main destination for cranks and crankshafts exports from Japan, accounting for a 31% share of total exports. Moreover, cranks and crankshafts exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (1.2K tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Thailand (980 tons), with a 12% share.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume to the United States totaled -2.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: China (-0.6% per month) and Thailand (-2.3% per month).
In value terms, the United States ($22M) remains the key foreign market for cranks and crankshafts exports from Japan, comprising 31% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($9.8M), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 9.3% share.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to the United States stood at -1.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: China (-1.4% per month) and Thailand (-2.5% per month).
