Italian Office Supply Prices Soar to $5,298 per Metric Ton

Italy Office Supply Import Price in June 2023

In June 2023, the office supply price stood at $5,298 per ton (CIF, Italy), remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 47% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $6,394 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($10,486 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($2,567 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Italy Office Supply Imports

In June 2023, the amount of office or school supplies of plastics imported into Italy soared to 1K tons, with an increase of 21% compared with the month before. In general, total imports indicated a modest increase from June 2022 to June 2023: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, imports increased by +84.6% against December 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 with an increase of 30% m-o-m.

In value terms, office supply imports soared to $5.5M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2023. Overall, total imports indicated a modest expansion from June 2022 to June 2023: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.0% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, imports increased by +70.8% against April 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2023 when imports increased by 42% against the previous month.

Italy Office Supply Imports by Country

In June 2023, China (472 tons) constituted the largest supplier of office supply to Italy, accounting for a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, office supply imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (213 tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Czech Republic (74 tons), with a 7% share.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to -1.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Germany (+3.7% per month) and the Czech Republic (-1.5% per month).

In value terms, Germany ($1.9M), China ($1.9M) and the Czech Republic ($367K) appeared to be the largest office supply suppliers to Italy, with a combined 74% share of total imports. France, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey, Poland, the Netherlands and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Spain, with a CAGR of +10.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
