China's Waterproof Footwear Price Increases Notably to $6.3 per Pair

China Waterproof Footwear Export Price in March 2023

In March 2023, the waterproof footwear price stood at $6.3 per pair (FOB, China), picking up by 6.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 an increase of 8.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $7.6 per pair in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to March 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($11.9 per pair), while the average price for exports to the Philippines ($2.7 per pair) was amongst the lowest.

From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Waterproof Footwear Export Prices by Type

Average prices varied noticeably for the major types of exported product. In March 2023, the product with the highest price was waterproof footwear, no toe cap, over ankle ($6.6 per pair), while the average price for exports of waterproof footwear, no toe cap, nes totaled $5.4 per pair.

From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: footwear; waterproof, covering the ankle (but not the knee), rubber or plastic outer soles and uppers (not assembled by stitch, rivet, nail, screw, plug or similar) (+0.4%).

China Waterproof Footwear Exports

In March 2023, exports of waterproof footwear from China surged to 8.2M pairs, rising by 98% against the previous month's figure. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The exports peaked at 14M pairs in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to March 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, waterproof footwear exports surged to $52M (IndexBox estimates) in March 2023. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 96M pairs in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to March 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China Waterproof Footwear Exports by Type

Waterproof footwear, no toe cap, over ankle (6.3M pairs) was the largest type of waterproof footwear exported from China, accounting for a 77% share of total exports. Moreover, waterproof footwear, no toe cap, over ankle exceeded the volume of the second product type, waterproof footwear, no toe cap, nes (1.9M pairs), threefold.

From March 2022 to March 2023, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of export of waterproof footwear, no toe cap, over ankle amounted to -1.2%.

In value terms, waterproof footwear, no toe cap, over ankle ($41M) remains the largest type of waterproof footwear exported from China, comprising 80% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by waterproof footwear, no toe cap, nes ($10M), with a 20% share of total exports.

From March 2022 to March 2023, the average monthly growth rate of the export volume of waterproof footwear, no toe cap, over ankle was relatively modest.

China Waterproof Footwear Exports by Country

the Philippines (1.1M pairs), Japan (1.1M pairs) and the United States (1,000K pairs) were the main destinations of waterproof footwear exports from China, together comprising 39% of total exports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Australia, Mexico, the Netherlands, Ghana, Malaysia, Cameroon, Singapore, South Africa and France, which together accounted for a further 27%.

From March 2022 to March 2023, the biggest increases were in Singapore (with a CAGR of +14.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for waterproof footwear exported from China were the United States ($11M), Japan ($6.6M) and Australia ($3M), with a combined 39% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Philippines, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, South Africa, Ghana, the Netherlands, Mexico, France and Cameroon, which together accounted for a further 28%.

Singapore, with a CAGR of +21.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
