The total consumption volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2013 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, consumption reached the peak volume of 2.6M tons. From 2022 to 2023, the growth of the global consumption remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The global camping equipment market revenue reduced to $16.1B in 2023, approximately reflecting the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2013 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. Imports into the United States increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% from 2013 to 2023. At the same time, India (+33.2%), Thailand (+15.8%), Belgium (+14.8%), South Korea (+13.1%), the Philippines (+9.9%), the Netherlands (+8.9%), Spain (+6.3%), Japan (+3.5%), Germany (+3.4%), France (+3.3%) and the UK (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +33.2% from 2013-2023. By contrast, Australia (-2.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2013 to 2023, the share of the United States, South Korea, Belgium, India, Thailand and the Netherlands increased by +2.6, +2.2, +1.8, +1.8, +1.7 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest camping equipment importing markets worldwide were the United States ($841M), Germany ($484M) and France ($372M), together accounting for 31% of global imports. The Netherlands, the UK, South Korea, Australia, Japan, Belgium, Spain, Thailand, the Philippines and India lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

The Philippines, with a CAGR of +18.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2023, tents of synthetic fibres (328K tons) and tarpaulins, awnings and sunblinds of synthetic fibres (236K tons) represented the key types of camping goodsaround the world, together amounting to approx. 64% of total imports. It was distantly followed by tarpaulins, awnings and sunblinds of textile materials other than cotton or synthetic fibres (114K tons), sailboards, landcraft or camping goods; of textile materials (86K tons) and tents of textile materials other than cotton or synthetic fibres (79K tons), together achieving a 32% share of total imports. Pneumatic mattresses of cotton or other textile materials (28K tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2013 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for tarpaulins, awnings and sunblinds of synthetic fibres (with a CAGR of +8.5%), while purchases for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, tents of synthetic fibres ($2.4B), tarpaulins, awnings and sunblinds of synthetic fibres ($1.3B) and sailboards, landcraft or camping goods; of textile materials ($503M) appeared to be the products with the highest levels of imports in 2023, with a combined 76% share of global imports. Tents of textile materials other than cotton or synthetic fibres, tarpaulins, awnings and sunblinds of textile materials other than cotton or synthetic fibres, pneumatic mattresses of cotton or other textile materials and sails lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.

Among the main imported products, pneumatic mattresses of cotton or other textile materials, with a CAGR of +10.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices By Type

In 2023, the average camping equipment import price amounted to $6,358 per ton, rising by 4.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was sails ($46,781 per ton), while the price for tarpaulins, awnings and sunblinds of textile materials other than cotton or synthetic fibres ($3,089 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2023, the average camping equipment import price amounted to $6,358 per ton, surging by 4.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($11,083 per ton), while the Philippines ($918 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In general, total exports indicated a notable increase from 2013 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, exports decreased by -7.3% against 2021 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 78% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports hit record highs at 1.3M tons in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, camping equipment exports contracted to $7.4B in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. The global exports peaked at $7.8B in 2022, and then declined in the following year.

Exports By Country

China dominates exports structure, reaching 797K tons, which was near 69% of total exports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Bangladesh (59K tons), committing a 5.1% share of total exports. Pakistan (41K tons), Poland (38K tons), Belgium (37K tons), the Netherlands (27K tons) and Germany (19K tons) held a minor share of total exports.

All these products together held near 24% share of total exports. Pneumatic mattresses of cotton or other textile materials (44K tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
