Cotton Yarn Price in Brazil Resumes its Growth, Averaging $5,423 per Ton
Brazil Cotton Yarn Import Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the cotton yarn price amounted to $5,423 per ton (CIF, Brazil), growing by 5.5% against the previous month. Over the last seven-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +6.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2022 an increase of 30% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $6,091 per ton. From July 2022 to August 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Peru ($14.7 per kg), while the price for China ($2,230 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+13.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Brazil Cotton Yarn Imports
Cotton yarn imports into Brazil soared to 540 tons in August 2022, with an increase of 23% against July 2022 figures. Overall, imports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 with an increase of 59% against the previous month. Imports peaked at 1.3K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to August 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cotton yarn imports skyrocketed to $2.9M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 35% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of $4.6M. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Brazil Cotton Yarn Imports by Country
India (153 tons), China (139 tons) and Turkey (109 tons) were the main suppliers of cotton yarn imports to Brazil, with a combined 75% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Egypt, Pakistan, Peru and Germany, which together accounted for a further 25%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Egypt (with a CAGR of +13.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, India ($906K), Egypt ($783K) and Turkey ($441K) appeared to be the largest cotton yarn suppliers to Brazil, together comprising 73% of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Egypt, with a CAGR of +16.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
