Dry Peas Price in Australia Grows 4% to $505 per Ton
Australia Dry Peas Export Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the dry peas price amounted to $505 per ton (FOB, Australia), picking up by 3.9% against the previous month. Over the last seven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 an increase of 11% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $508 per ton in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to August 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($867 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($428 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Fiji (+25.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Australia Dry Peas Exports
Dry peas exports from Australia shrank dramatically to 4.3K tons in August 2022, waning by -73.7% on the previous month's figure. In general, exports recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 when exports increased by 96% against the previous month. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 30K tons. From March 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, dry peas exports contracted markedly to $2.2M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 when exports increased by 94% month-to-month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $13M. From March 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

China (3.1K tons) was the main destination for dry peas exports from Australia, accounting for a 72% share of total exports. Moreover, dry peas exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sri Lanka (478 tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Belgium (177 tons), with a 4.1% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to China totaled -18.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Sri Lanka (-5.2% per month) and Belgium (+8.2% per month).
In value terms, China ($1.3M) emerged as the key foreign market for dry peas exports from Australia, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sri Lanka ($414K), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 4.6% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to China totaled -18.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Sri Lanka (+9.6% per month) and Belgium (+10.3% per month).
