U.S. Asparagus Price Declines for Two Consecutive Months to $2,427 per Ton
U.S. Asparagus Import Price per Ton July 2022
In July 2022, the asparagus price per ton stood at $2,427, leveling off at the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to July 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 when the average import price increased by 4.7% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,473 per ton. From June 2022 to July 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2022, the country with the highest price was Peru ($2,639 per ton), while the price for Mexico stood at $2,303 per ton.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+1.4%).
U.S. Asparagus Imports
In July 2022, imports of asparagus into the United States contracted to 18K tons, which is down by -5.8% compared with the previous month's figure. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 when imports increased by 47% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 40K tons in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to July 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, asparagus imports reduced to $43M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2022. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when imports increased by 46% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $92M. From April 2022 to July 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
U.S. Asparagus Imports by Country
Mexico (10K tons) and Peru (7.1K tons) were the main suppliers of asparagus imports to the United States.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Mexico (with a CAGR of +0.1%).
In value terms, the largest asparagus suppliers to the United States were Mexico ($24M) and Peru ($19M).
Mexico, with a CAGR of +1.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review.
