Germany Runs the Show in the EU Market of Balloons, Dirigibles and Other Non-Powered Aircraft

From 2007 to 2014, EU production of balloons and dirigibles showed steady decrease, falling from 60 thousand units in 2007 to 27 thousand units in 2014. It dropped with a CAGR of 10.7% over the period under review. In value terms, EU balloon and dirigible production decreased to 27 million EUR in 2014, falling by 3.4% annually.

The countries with the largest production of balloons and dirigibles in absolute volumes were the United Kingdom (123 thousand units), Germany (92 thousand units) and Poland (26 thousand units).

Germany dominated in EU production and trade of balloons and dirigibles. In 2014, Germany exported 308 balloons and dirigibles. Of this amount, 26% was supplied to Switzerland, where Germany's balloons and dirigibles held a 3% share of total Switzerland imports.
