Belgium dominates in the global silk-worm cocoon trade. In 2014, Belgium exported 15 tonnes of silk-worm cocoon totaling 667 thousand USD, 15% under the previous year. Its primary trading partner on the global cocoon market was France, where it supplied 99.7% of its total exports of silk-worm cocoon in value terms, accounting for 93% of France's total imports.

From 2007 to 2014, Belgium was a net exporter of silk-worm cocoons. Over this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. However, in physical terms, the difference was less pronounced.

China and Italy were among the other main global suppliers of silk-worm cocoons in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were Belgium (+29% per year) and Singapore (+3% per year). Belgium significantly strengthened its position in the global export structure.

In 2014, Belgium had only three trading partners: France, the Republic of Korea and Viet Nam. From 2007 to 2014, France held the largest share in Belgium's exports, supplies to the other countries were unstable throughout the analyzed period.
